The “ME” in the Stories I Tell

First of all, I don’t take myself that seriously. I take what I do seriously, and I try to do a good job. (Denzel Washington in GQ US Oct 2012)

At University I feel like being at a point of struggling lately. I don’t have a problem with my grades or my motivation or with the environment. I am actually quite comfortable there, though, there are a few things that really bug me, but hey, you can find things that bug you or make you mad or angry always somewhere, somehow. So, that’s no big deal for me.

As you already know from some earlier entries, I am getting my master’s degree in Journalism and New Media — if you haven’t known so far, you know now. These studies involve a lot of writing, heavy writing. Sometimes these written exposés try to take me out of my comfort zone and I’m going there, out of it. But early on, when signing the contract with the university, I kind of made a pact with myself. I swore to everything that’s worth the world to me, you know, Burberry; VOGUE; Jane Austen; that, no matter what I was about to say or write or do, it would always be consisting of three things: HONESTY, STYLE and AUTHENTICITY.

With everything I write and have people read I want them to not just get to know me and my point of view, I want to present them the perspective of someone finally having an opinion and putting it out there. Even if they do not agree with what I have to say or like the way I say things but at least, it makes them think about my words and actions and opinions and maybe even gets them to form their own opinions — either on me or the topics I write about. I don’t want people to always agree with me, I think most people don’t get that I live for making them speechless; wondering if I’m really being serious. I love to make people laugh or cry reading my words. I love people to be confused by my words; to later on think about what I said once. I want them to form an opinion about my words — either good or bad.

But, what I want the utmost is for them to always find ME in the words I write, the stories I tell!

That’s not because I think I am the most brilliant person in the world, or the most talented, or the most articulate, or the one everyone has to listen to. I know, compared to a lot of other more influential people I might am not influential at all but still — who I am reflects who I want to be. And one day I want to make a change. I want to show people that they can achieve anything they want if they truly stay themselves and go ahead with it. Pull it off relentlessly.

I just want people to know that they can rely on me having an opinion; having a character that I can put out there, a character that doesn’t give a fuck about the things other people say just because they do not like the fact that I’m straight forward and relentlessly sincere. That is the authenticity in my words. I know, I may put a lot of fashion words in writing because I love the visual language and emotional depth of clothing. I want to be a character, people trust because they know one hundred percent that I am honest with them, and straight forward, and that everything I say and write and do is authentically constituting myself. Giving them a part of something they might be able to relate to.

This is who I am and I can’t understand why people always try to force you to be more like the others or more formal or writing based on guidelines. I write what I think and feel and would say in every second I live and breathe, for everything I always wanted to do.

Don’t get me wrong — I do abide by a certain set of rules when it comes to writing, like grammar or spelling. But what I want people to understand and accept and respect and tolerate is the fact that out there one must be himself and unique in order to survive this crazy mixed up world. That is what I am — that is what I believe in — that is what makes me truly special and different. I know who I am and I always make sure people understand that no matter what I say and write and do — it’s done by myself. With outspoken HONESTY, sharp STYLE and one hundred percent AUTHENTICITY. All three in capital letters.

Take it, or leave it.
Amen Fashion.

LADY GAGA – The Born This Way Ball

I know, I am guilty. I am sorry. And I could (maybe even should) apologize a thousand times for not writing quite recently but you must know, my real life was getting the best of me and I found myself in a zone where I had mixed feelings towards the person I was becoming in the last couple of months. I was at a crossroads drifting right into moments of doubt when I finally found myself all shiny and new again believing in myself like I have never before. So I will save you the apology shit and just try to make it up to you.

You know, life gives you moments to decide whether you take the self-pitying road down to nowhere or the doubt-forgetting road up to where you belong – The STARS! I’ve decided for myself to be a star! And so should you.

Hollywood Star - Walk of Fame

It is time to stop thinking about doing something but really doing it. Like writing this blog here. Or, more recently I thought about getting an MA degree. I thought about that for over a year and finally I said to myself, ‘fucking do it NOW!’ and so I applied for a Master’s degree in Journalism and New Media and I was invited to the first round of entry exams. I had to wait about two months to get the next invite to the second and third round of entrance examination and you know what? About a month ago I got the news. I am in. I got one of the rare 35 spots. And I had to fight against over 250 others. So, if I can do it – so do you!

My new flat finally feels like a place I can call home. I have all my VOGUE and ELLE and all my books and clothes here. The furniture looks exquisite and I just feel great every time I enter my apartment through the double door entrance. Thank GaGa the dream of my own apartment came true.

And, when we talk GaGa we should talk ‘LADY GAGA – The Born This Way Ball’ which I attended last night. One word: EPIC!

Lady GaGa - The Born This Way Ball

It was the perfect mixture of all the words I love – Fashion, Music, Magic, Extravaganza, Spectacularity, Divinity and Love. (Okay, the last one is a word I only use in combination with things I love to do and never connected to people. You know my issues about this topic and because of a recent, quite painful event I have decided to keep this box of topics hidden from my life now.)

Let me tell you – Lady GaGa was amazing! I was so close to her that I almost cried because of a sudden rush of happiness to be this close to someone I would consider a) a real natural talent b) a style icon and c) someone the younger generation can look up to for inspiration, strength and love for something one does to get ahead in life! She truly is an inspiration to me. And her music a source of strength. When she played my two most favorite songs ‘Bad Kids’ and ‘Marry the Night’ I just lost it. My Monster claws have constantly been up in the air to support her and I knew she felt the support of all of us. It was simply divine. The best concert of my life and while I might still be talking in a rush of emotions here, I have to say that there have also been quite a few negative things about the organization of yesterday’s event. I just think you need to know both sides, the good and the bad. It is just the honest thing to write down. And you know me – I am all about honesty and straight forwardness. The 250 bucks for my VIP Ticket definitely weren’t worth it. And let me tell you – a lot of people were angry and have been crying. (The GaGa gift was a poster of the tour… could have guessed that. No one communicated that there would be just monster pit and no area for those in possession of a VIP ticket – what the hell where the 250 bucks for? Dinner and drinks? Sorry, but I could have had dinner before the event and bought my drinks at the main bar saving myself about 150 bucks. What a fail by the Organizers! I only got so close to her because I fought my way through all the gays and straights.).

But what was worth it was waiting for Lady GaGa – she just delivered an ecstatic, authentic, perfect show full of music, fashion and love! Thank you for that. It was divine. And she even performed a new song of her Album Project ‘ARTPOP’ – Princess Die.

P.S.: For those of you who think by G.O.A.T. Lady GaGa refers to the animal I have to put the true meaning out there:

G.O.A.T. = Government Owned Alien Territory in Space which is also the whole theme of the ‘LADY GAGA – The Born This Way Ball’ Tour!

Zagreb Needs Ties! [S02E02]

Burberry Check Silk Tie

The Burberry Check Tie I Already Have

Wednesday

Outfit of the Day: Black, waxed Guess Jeans; black and white cashmere Burberry sleeve; olive green and black H&M Military Jacket; black Burberry Scarf; silver Fossil watch; black vintage Longchamp bag and my shiny black Burberry shoes.

5.00 am
Good Morning my little Monster would be Lady Gaga say when she gets up in the morning; I on the other hand just scream and shout at my sister, ‘Where the hell is my coffee, is there a reason my coffee isn’t here? Have you died or something?’ In fact it took ten minutes to realize that I neither am Miranda Priestley nor the editor in chief of Runway; the fashion magazine from the book and the movie ‘The Devil wears Prada’.’

7.00 am
The rain started the minute we walked out of the house trying to get our huge suitcases and bags packed with clothes (mine of course with a load full of Burberry) into S’s car. Let me tell you one thing – the rain didn’t stop until this very hour with us sitting here playing a round of Trivial Pursuit and UNO. It is heavily pissing outside and we are sitting here with stacks of beer and bottles of wine as well as big bottles of water playing along with the weather as well as with the games my sister brought with her.

Croatia Klenovica Rainy Wednesday Arrival

Croatia Klenovica: the Rainy Wednesday Arrival

Who could have thought that she would come along with just a half empty suitcase and I would have to carry myself with a huge trunk, a bag and a second bag. You know, some boys just need all their stuff with them and where the hell was I supposed to store all that Burberry, all those new Vogues and my Clinique products? (I think I do not have to make it clear that I confiscated the whole wardrobe in our room to put my stuff in and let’s be honest, she can keep her stuff in the suitcase. It’s not that Burberry. I wish it were.) People with a certain style and image just have to have everything with them in order to keep this image so here I go with a heavy trunk trying to look as elegant as possible when heaving it into the car…

3.00pm Are we there yet? Well, yes we are.
…and later that day into the house we rented. We have three of them. They are called Shell boxes. And they have the size of one of my Burberry Shoeboxes. R and I are there with Speedfreak and Markus. Two rooms. Yes, I have a roomy. My sister. And it is quite OK since she doesn’t snore (THANK BURBERRY) and sharing a room equally makes me control the way she looks. So, I can pick a fight whenever her outfit isn’t picture perfect in my eyes. And I do complain a lot about that. I always did. But, when you see her you might realize that it helped since her style is relatively cool, chic and effortlessly pretty. 10 years of complaining and styling and giving tips (although she never wanted them) had to pay their tribute someday. And that day finally came.

Thursday

Outfit of the Day: After several changes I have decided on wearing my white Massi Milano shirt; a classic house checked Burberry tie; a grey beige Tommy Hilfiger sweater without sleeves; a trench colored Burberry stead man jeans; a black Tommy Hilfiger belt; a dark blue Tommy Hilfiger suit Jacket; classic house checked hight-top Burberry sneakers and my vintage black Longchamp.

8.13 am
It is Thursday by now, I was already out for a run (btw: the sun is shining, shining, shining high above the clear sky); in the shower and had a little self-made breakfast buffet by Speedfreak. You know me: No cooking, no cleaning; no cleaning no dishpan hands; no dishpan hands no hundreds of thousands of Euros for La Mer Hand Balm. You see – my thinking always makes sense and as Christine (my work colleague) puts it; a little less money for La Mer a little more money saved for my very own Birkin Bag. So in the end I am winning.

Croatia Klenovica Sunny Second Day

Croatia Klenovica: the Sunny Second Day

1.30 pm Zagreb – Mission Burberry
After about two and a half hours of driving and laughing and fighting with a 20 feet woman (that’s an insider my dears) we arrived in Zagreb and started the hunt for the newly opened Burberry shop. The hunt unfortunately turned out to be a bit of a disappointment since I was looking for a great tie from the new collection but unfortunately, the only tie they had was the exact one I was already wearing. So there goes my message out to Burberry and Zagreb both at the same time: Zagreb Needs Ties. Desperately. Just like I do for fulfilling my plans of buying a Burberry tie in every country I travel to. So, as it seems I will have to come back to Zagreb/Croatia in order to fulfill this plan one day.

Croatia Zagreb Burberry Store Picture 1

Croatia Zagreb Burberry Store Picture 2

5:45 pm – Tea Time
Running around all the time not buying something because there isn’t anything I haven’t already seen or what I desperately need I finally decided to calm down a bit. So we went to ‘The Regent’ hotel close to the botanic garden and drank a cup of tea and coffee and had a little strawberry cheese cake. My sister, Speedfreak and his boyfriend Markus went to see the botanic garden but since the wind is quite heavy and I am not a big fan of plants I have decided to stay at ‘The Regent’ updating my blog and getting a bit of work done. That is the one thing I hate about a holiday – sometimes work and certain important tasks fall behind so one’s gotta do what one’s gotta do in order to keep himself financially fluent in order to being able to invest in all the Burberry one needs.

Now I sit here by myself relishing the fact that I am along for a little bit not having to talk and later on maybe flipping through the pages of my Vogue España with Lily Donaldson on the cover.

That’s all for now. Do you miss having me around already?

XOXO

P.S. I am already on my 15th day of my 28 Day Sugar Cleansing and I feel great. About an hour ago I was running to the tracks of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Album (yeah, I dedicated the whole day to her since purchasing the tickets had something very religiously glorious for me) in the heaviest of rains we had this year in Vienna and I just felt one thing – great!

Great, because I am alive and aware of it.
Great, because I can cherish beautiful and sad moments and be inspired by them.
Great, because I feel like I am on a good way – in every possible sense.
Great, because I am born this way. This way I am and I celebrate it!

A Song That Should Be Played When You… / the Music Saga [Part I]

If there is one thing to mark your life every single day in every possible phase of living and breathing it is music. Music makes the heart go crazy – it makes the hard go wild. Music gives me all the love I need, all the support I could ask for. When I am down it either puts me back onto my feet or it helps me to carry on with my sadness because I just need to. Music is what unites the world. Music is here and there. Music breathes with me and sleeps with me. It carries me into the sweetest of dreams but also can be the best companion through the loudest of nights. It is the blanket when I am cold and it is the water when I am hot. It makes me fierce. It makes me strut my stuff. It makes me walk down the streets like walking on a runway.
And here I go and sing and dance and smile because it is what keeps me alive besides fashion! MUSIC.

A song that should be played when you enter a room

Lady GaGa – Fashion

‘…I am, I’m so fabulous. I’m so, fierce that it’s so nuts…’

A song that should be played when you are in the mood to dance all night long

Britney Spears – Till the World Ends

‘…hotter than the A-List. Next one on my Hit List. Baby let me blow your mind tonight…’

A song that should be played when you face the coldest of times after someone broke your heart

Leona Lewis – Better in Time

‘…It was the longest winter without you. I didn’t know where to turn to…’

A song that should be played when you embrace the night to sleep

Chantal Kreviazuk – Feels Like Home

‘…it feels like home to me. It feels like I’m all the way back where I come from…’

A song that should be played when you want to get it on

Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire

‘…soft lips are open. Knuckles are pale. Feels like you’re dying…’

A song that should be played when you are flirting with a cute woman / man

Jessica Cornish (Jessie J) – Sexy Silk

‘…a kiss can last all night. You’ll have to seduce me…’

I guess this is it with the first six songs of my music saga – so part one is done but you should stay tuned for part two. Never forget: Music unites the world, Music makes love go around, Music oh beautiful, sweet, gentle, tough, hard, sexy, vulnerable, fierce, perfect Music… I know you’ll never leave me.

the Burberry Prorsum Fairy Tale: the Autumn/ Winter 2011 Ad Campaign

By now, every one who is reading my blog on a regular basis ever since I started to write my life down on the internet – in all its beloved privacy and secrecy, knows that I am not just simply adoring or loving Burberry in a healthy kind of way but obsessing over every single piece of fashion created by ingenious mastermind Christopher Bailey.
When I dedicated my final collection at University exactly one year ago to the marvelous history of the trench coat developed for the British military by Thomas Burberry my love grew fonder because I became more acquainted with the actual material of creating such a uniquely classic and fabulously British piece of timeless fashion.

Every time I scroll through the pages of Vogue or Elle and I open a page with a Burberry ad – a shooting that includes a Burberry piece – or simply a stunning picture of Christopher Bailey my heart skips a heavy beat as if it wants to dance to Lady GaGa’s track The Queen (which actually fits incredibly well to the British Kingdom!) and that is always the irrevocable moment of knowing that this label of special, well-designed, beautifully crafted goods is not just basing on traditions but developing further every second because of Christopher Bailey’s sheer Zeitgeist.

As I saw this new ad campaign for the Autumn / Winter 2011 Collection is simply lost myself in its beauty for details and the mixture of a variety of fabrics such as leather in different styles and colors, wool, cotton and silk. The color scheme though still using the classic colors for several suits and pants as well as gabardine and wool coats, is richly enhanced with bright colors such as various red tones, green, yellow and brown (above all in the great variety of leather types used – croc, gator) and shows us that the new autumn season adapts the colors of a tree’s leaves right before they drop onto the floor to make way for a new cold and icy winter fashion wonderland.

Usually, I am completely a summer type of guy – except for the short pants and flip flops: Firstly, my legs are too thin to sport pants as short as a belt (and some guys shouldn’t do as well!) and secondly, flips flops are not just gross but the worst thing shoe manufacturer’s ever bred apart from ballerina flats. Therefore, being a summer guy always made me hate the winter time more than a fake Birkin bag but with these styles to come I can’t wait to run to the next Burberry store to prepare for a fashionable, colorful autumn and winter season.

For now, I am done but there is far more to come so watch your back because I might be spying on you analyzing your outfit from head to toe. Better not sport those flip flops next time you cross my way.

XOXO

Mr.StrictlyIntimate

P.S. Dear Mister Bailey – my proposal is still up-to-date. Marry me and I will make you the luckiest man on earth – and vice versa of course!

For all those who can’t get enough of this collection and the ad campaign I have a nice collection of videos to watch and get inspired by. So, get up, dress up and simply look stunning in every way you can!
