A German Start.

It is Tuesday. I am back in Germany. K’s place in Mitterfecking. Tomorrow we’re driving off to Europapark. I am trying to make breakfast for everyone while I am blogging and putting away the dishes from last night.I think it is the least I can do for K and her mother’s hospitality. And of course, listening to the wonderful French Céline Dion. Oh boy do I love her. I think my friends are already annoyed but I don’t give a fuck. (BTW: Her new single ‘Parler á mon pére’ simply is divine and beautiful.) So here are the mental outpourings of my Monday. Yesterday, for those who can’t remember.

Céline Dion parler à mon pére

9:30 am

It is Monday morning (of course, I told you the time) and I sit here at a bakery waiting for D and I (the girl who takes us with her). It sounds like the beginning of an adventurous movie where three people drive off to meet new people, have exciting sexual intercourses and dance through the nights in every city they visit after they have worked their asses off by day to afford the trip they are taking. But, it actually is the start to another trip to Germany where I, for one part, will meet my best friend K again and for another part take a trip with her, D and two other friends, J and L to the Europapark.

For K and me this is going to be the second time around and we will cherish this moment since she moved back to her home country a couple of weeks ago. This is a reunion and the real goodbye since the last time saying our farewell’s sounded rather silly considering the fact that we would see each other for this trip one and a half weeks later. But this time it is going to be different. There is no turning back.

That is a good thing, though. We both are going into new directions, discovering new ways of living and meeting new people. There is just one thing that will always hold us together – the friendship and the importance of this friendship that resolutes in a simple thing called love. The only love I still dare to believe in: the Love of a Friend.

Let us start this week with some good news – I get accepted at a Viennese University to do my Master’s Degree in Journalism and New Media. I know, I did not even tell you guys that I’ve had applied but I actually did not want to face another big and official disappointment after the Vogue experience and so I decided to keep this little thing all to myself until I get an answer. Little did I know that it was a positive one but well, here I sit and state that come September I am going to be a student again. Well, besides working full time of course. There is no other way I could afford my demanding lifestyle for I now have to pay rent on a regular basis and all the other paychecks that come along with an apartment. And some Burberry sometimes, of course. And books, and traveling to meet with someone very special regularly, and VOGUE, and ELLE Decoration, and well, sometimes this boy has to eat something too.

So, this is the moment – we will start our ride / journey to Regensburg where we’re going to meet K.

2.15 pm

Finally, Regensburg. Somehow I am a little tense. I do not know where it comes from but four hours in a car with other people (even though they are adorably lovely) and bad music really gives you something. Above all if the brain can’t breathe properly and the people all around us drive like lunatics.
When K picks us up grocery shopping is on the list and let me tell you – there is NOTHING, really nothing I can do worse than grocery shopping. It is too much for me mostly. All those people. All those foods and drinks. And weird stuff in between. Really freaks me out and gives me the chills. But I’m sure I am looking damn fine at doing it. So that’s enough for me because everything I do, I am doing it with class, elegance and dignity. And of course, a dazzling hot outfit.

4.30 pm

Receiving a big and welcoming hug from K’s mother C and her wonderfully nice aunt. We sit together for a coffee, a piece of cake K baked and a glass of sparkling wine. It’s D’s Birthday so we have to do a little something. Happy Birthday D – celebrate with style.

6.30 pm

I need a break. A little one. Just me, myself and Céline Dion. So we all sit on the terrace together but each minding his own business listening to music on their iPods and iPhones. Heavenly calm time.

7.15 pm

We’re cooking. Yiha. Having a little Italian meal for D and K’s mom. Afterwards there’s drinks and a lot of games with a friend of K’s. A. And yet another A crosses my life. We’re playing Twister because D never played it before. Of course he loses and of course, surprise surprise. I win.

12.00 am

We are sitting in a tent in the garage. No, we do not prepare for camping. We are hiding away to keep the noise down so K’s mum can rest properly for she has to go to work the next day.

1.05 am

Bedtime everybody. Putting on the radio – Céline Dion with ‘On s’est aimé à cause’ The only way I can sleep is while listening to music. Otherwise I would be up all night. Weird, isn’t it?

Now it is breakfast time. Tuesday. 10.40 am. Have a great day everyone.

the Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games Mockingjay

I just stepped out of my hot bathtub where I recalled what I was allowed to see tonight – the Austrian “the Hunger Games” Premiere I attended with my dear K. It was simply amazing. You know, there are always movies basing on books that make you feel like you’ve just wasted one and a half to two hours of your lives but these two hours and twelve minutes have been just dazzling, exciting and sincerely leaving me wanting to see more!

The whole day I was counting hours and minutes and seconds just to finally be caught in the moment when the cinema hall lights turn off, everyone turns silent and just opens up to being moved fundamentally deep by something amazing. And amazing it was. Amazingly great put together, amazingly great transferred into a movie and above all, amazingly great acting by beautiful Jennifer Lawrence (stunning before in ‘Winter’s Bone’ for which she shouldn’t have just received the nomination for the Academy Award but the Award itself) and handsome Josh Hutcherson (critically acclaimed for his part in the movie ‘The Kinds Are All Right’).

Jennifer Lawrence at "The Hunger Games" Premiere New York in Prabal Gurung

Josh Hutcherson at The Hunger Games Premiere New York in Z Zegna

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark were just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to amazing actors in a movie that will buzz all the Twitter Accounts of the World when the premiere will take place in the rest of the world come tomorrow! Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket (dashingly great and funny in amazing couture!), Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, (amazingly hot and to die for) Wes Bentley as Gamekeeper Seneca Crane (Why the hell did such a beautiful man have to die!?), Amandla Stenberg as Rue (who wasn’t just fabulously funny but magically cute… her death scene was definitely the saddest) and all the other great members of the cast made this movie a spectacular piece of entertainment. All the hard work and training and effort they put in were definitely worth it and I can’t wait for the second and third and fourth movie (yeah, there’s gotta be a trend in splitting up the last part!).

the (officially existing) 12 Districts of Panem

Of course, the movies had a few flaws like leaving out the part of dearly touching Madge Undersee, the mayor’s daughter who actually gave the golden Mockingjay pin to Katniss; or, the fact that Katniss was younger when she got the bread from Peeta, which did not come out as clear in the movie; or, leaving out the fate of Avox girl Lavinia; or, not including the (for my part very important and beautiful) sending of the bread from District 11 to Katniss; or, shortening the part of Katniss’ styling crew who would have added an amazingly hilarious part to the whole scenery of blood and fight and killing. But, all in all I have to point out – no book adaption can be fulfilling to one hundred percent and I guess the parts that have been left out are exactly those that had to be deleted in order to keep an eye on the main message and tone of the story by Suzanne Collins. For me, the movie was great – more than that. It was almost close to perfect for it couldn’t have been done any better. So I take a bow and may speak out proudly, ‘Kudos to the cast, the crew and all the people working so hard to make this movie what it is – a heartbreaking, exciting and partly very funny movie about children (because that is what they actually are when you think about it precisely) who fight for their lives in order to have a life they actually deserved. With enough hot water to bath, enough food to survive and enough love to feel comfortable in their own skins!’

3 Things I’m Looking Forward to…

Three Things

You know this feeling that instantly sets in when the sun is shining a bit heavier than usual right after winter time almost seems to be over? It is more than just a simple feeling – it is a yearning. A yearning for something that seems to be arriving so soon but for us can’t arrive soon enough. I have this right now. It is not just about the upcoming spring and its sensational wardrobe that becomes available to me as soon as the temperatures are up. No, it is more. Way more. It is the first ray of sun in the morning when getting up realizing it is finally bright outside and not everything turned into a very dark shade of what we use to call winter time. It is the first time of wearing a blazer without a trench coat (even though I have dedicated my life to wearing trench coats) – or without the necessary feeling of cold when leaving the trench coat at home for styling reasons even though the temperatures are way beyond minus outside.

So, this is not just a post to acknowledge that spring is finally coming but also a mockup of three things I am looking forward to right now while sitting at Starbucks drinking my usual triple grande extra hot soy latte macchiato. Ladies and Gentleman. It is official – Spring is coming!

#03 Spring, oh Spring, How Beautiful and Bright Art Thou in Fashion!
My personal spring starts exactly at the moment when all the Burberry Stores around the globe start to unpack the newly arrived collections. That wonderful moment when you walk by a shop window and you realize, “HA! that is the new coat I saw at the show. It is finally here.” And your heart beats high and your pulse raises and your credit card is in a very dangerous place from now on. Wherever it is when it is close to you.

#02 Where Music Makes a Heart Burn Like Fire
A place so sweet and safe and secure and sound. A place where it is only you and a fabulous band. Just like Scars on 45. After their brilliant release of their first EP Give me Something which made the cut of becoming the title track of Grey’s Anatomy’s 4th Soundtrack, they previously released their second EP Heart on Fire. And let me tell you one thing – it is even more special, glorious and incredibly beautiful. So, what I am looking for is not just their first album which should arrive very, very soon (April 10th), but also I am looking forward to see this fantastic British band develop further becoming majorly successful in the music business!

When you’re standing on your own
And you feel you’ve got nobody round you
Yeah you know I’ll be the one who helps you from your knees
My hearts on fire
My hearts on fire

#01 Summer Loving Had Me a Blast
No, I am definitely not talking about falling in love or flirting a lot this summer. I am talking about enjoying the most glorious of all summers with my dearest friends. Those who stood by me every time I needed them and those who can always count on me whenever they need me. So this summer is all about making plans with those who I cherish and love the most. Guys – this summer, this year is going to be one of the best of our lives!#

So – the only question left for being spoken out loud: “Guys, what are your top three things you are looking forward to?”

Song of the Day: Love You Like a Love Song- Selena Gomez [When the Sun Goes Down]

Selena Gomez When the Sun Goes Down

When Disney stars grow up they can become all sorts of human beings – lost, talent free cheerleader type of guys like Vanessa Hudgens, sweet but still inconspicuous singers/actors that play a cheerleader in a TV-show like Ashley Tisdale (the Show I am talking about is of course ‘Wildcats’) or prepotent actors who honestly can’t act (and/or sing though they became famous for that you know… stuff – remembering High School Musical? Better don’t!) like Zac Efron. And while other stars shine in either absence (Demi Lovato – I am so by your side… go get better and get back on track girl because you are damn talented) or with a scandalous change of life (poor poor Miley Cyrus) others grab the chance and steal the spotlight faster than any of named above can say ‘Burberry’ (yeah I know, I have a talent of bringing up this term/label in the most unexpected situations but hey I am addicted so please just let me get away with it!) just like beautiful and young mademoiselle Selena Gomez did.

A couple of days ago (June 21st) her third Album ‘When the Sun Goes Down’ hit the market like a bullet hits the brain – and so it did with my brain. It hit me and I can’t get it out of my head. This album is somewhat addictive and contagious that my iPod plays it off the hook – perpetually. While the first two albums (Kiss&Tell and A Year Without Rain) of Selena Gomez and the Scene where kind of nice but not hugely conspicuous to really arouse my attention I definitely have to say that this one is a different gauge. I’d dare say one Disney star plans on taking over the world with disco tunes that make you want to rock and dance the whole night through leaving the old and odd image of a young aspiring Disney teen star behind setting herself free to become an adult and grown up woman slowly but steadily.

Selena Gomez When the Sun Goes Down Album Cover

I have to admit that there were one or two singles on each of the first two albums that I really liked or still can’t get out of my head because they went into a direction that perfectly fits to where Selena Gomez and the Scene are right now – catchy, lighthearted and funky pop music with a very danceable, rockable and above all enjoyable beat. For instance ‘Naturally’ who was actually the most recognizable single from the Kiss&Tell album, which I still enjoy every once in a while when the sun shines beautifully and I just want to listen to easy going and lighthearted tunes. Or ‘Spotlight’ from their sophomore album A Year Without Rain, which actually is a funny single to just close your eyes to imagining you become a rock star one single day. But while these songs have been very young and well a bit childish actually it seems that someone grew up and glamorous. Selena became a beautiful woman (more beautiful than she has always been anyway) with a strong appeal and a great attitude towards fashion – which is absolutely obvious flipping through the booklet of the new album where she totally appears glamorous, divalicious and above all incredibly stylish and colorful!

When the Sun Goes Down – Selena Gomez and the Scene

1. Love You Like a Love Song
2. Bang Bang Bang
3. Who Says
4. We Own the Night (featuring Pixie Lott)
5. Hit the Lights
6. Whiplash
7. When the Sun Goes Down
8. My Dilemma
9. That’s More Like It
10. Outlaw
11. Middle of Nowhere
12. Dices (‘Who Says’ Spanish Version)

While I like to listen to the platinum hit single ‘Who Says’, which is a simple ode to self-love, self-belief and self-trust I totally have to say that nothing beats the new single ‘Love You Like a Love Song’ (video to be seen above! Simply a song you can’t get out of your head and to be honest – it may be a love song but finally it is not one of those cheesy kiss me now before I lose you forever kind of songs – it is lighter, fresher and perfect to let all the worries go dancing around your room) and the songs My Dilemma (totally addictive and reminding us all of a simple situation of knowing someone is not good to be in love with but still you can’t get away from that special person), Hit the Lights (an incredible and even better homage to oneself and above all to our fears of failing without even trying – go fulfill your dreams goddammit!) and We Own the Night featuring Pixie Lott (totally addictive and totally cute – really good duet choice… thank God she did not sing with another Disney freak again!).

All I can say is – get the album. Purchase it, listen to it and simply love it for its beautifully simplicity. It is a rare peace of enjoyment. I have never heard a thing like that – above all not from a former Disney star and I have to say I truly respect Selena Gomez for giving us such a great musical experience. Though I have to admit that she definitely could use some improvement on her live singing skills I have nothing to say against this album – it is cool, it is fresh, it is new… but above all it is a great fun and absolutely danceable. And while you read this article and think about whether to purchase these twelve songs I am about to dance around my room lightheartedly and completely free of any bad thoughts.

Love it. Enjoy it. Dance the Whole Night through!
